NINA AIR – MIRAVAL STUDIOS

Crafted for the reopening of Miraval Studios in December 2023, this Custom Shop NINA AIR was fitted with piezo sensors for the studio, the atelier's first studio partnership. Flamed maple top, Natural finish.

DE LEEUW X MIRAVAL STUDIOS
Redesigned by Damien Quintard, Miraval Studios were looking for instruments capable of precise textures. We fitted this Nina Air with piezo sensors: from electro-acoustic to crunch, a palette few guitars can hold, and one the studio wanted close at hand.

'They crafted instruments with us to reach the precise textures we are looking for here.'

Damien Quintard, cofondateur et CEO, Miraval Studios

MIRAVAL STUDIOS

SEMI HOLLOW

A walnut body, carved down to the essential: the NINA AIR combines acoustic resonance, playing balance and lightness — around 2.7 kg.

THE PIEZO SYSTEM

Alongside the magnetic pickups sits a Graphtech ghost system: under each string, a sensor set into the saddle picks up its vibration at the bridge, where a magnetic pickup reads its movement. A dedicated preamp draws from it a clear voice, close to an acoustic.

A three-way selector chooses one of the two systems, or blends them: a way to shape one's tone between electric and acoustic.

THE NECK HEEL

The sculpted heel of our neck-through builds gives full access to the upper frets and a rare playing comfort. It is one of the signatures of Quentin De Leeuw, Maître Artisan d'Art.

COMMISSIONING A DE LEEUW

Commissioning a De Leeuw instrument means entering one of the few French ateliers specialised in lutherie, where every guitar is entirely carved by hand.

Every commission begins with an appointment: at our Paris showroom, or during a trunk show in Los Angeles, Tokyo, New York… Every detail is chosen together, through to delivery in person.

Four disciplines on a single instrument: lutherie, fine cabinetmaking, marquetry and ornamental sculpture, under the hand of Quentin De Leeuw, Maître Artisan d'Art (master craftsman of the French métiers d'art).
